SS2 COMPUTER SCIENCE 1ST TERM

SS2 Computer Science First Term Scheme of Work & Lesson Note

Computer Science is one of the science subjects SS2 students are required to offer in first term. The Unit of Instruction for SS2 Computer Science 1st Term is carefully developed from the Scheme of Work, which in turn is, based on NERDC current curriculum and SSCE syllabus.

INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
1 Define Central Processing Unit.
2 Mention the parts of a CPU.
3 State the functions of Arithmetic and Logic Unit (ALU).
4 ETC

What is Central Processing Unit (CPU)? The computer does its primary work in a part of the machine we cannot see. This control center is called the central processing unit (CPU). The central processing unit converts data input to information output.

All computers, large and small, must have a central processing unit. The central processing unit consists of two parts, namely: The control unit (CU) and the arithmetic and logic unit (ALU). Each part has a specific function.

Kindly watch the following video on the definition and functions of the central processing unit.

Memory Unit

SUB TOPICS:
A. Meaning of memory unit
B. Units of storage

INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
1 Define computer memory.
2 List the types of computer memory.
3 Identify primary memory.
4 ETC

In a computer architecture, the computer memory unit works closely with the central processing unit (CPU). The memory unit is of two types. They are random access memory (RAM) and read only memory (ROM).

A. Meaning and types of alternative logic gates
B. Alternative logic gates representation

INSTRUCTIONAL OBJECTIVES: At the end of the lesson, learners should be able to:
1 Describe alternative logic gates.
2 State the types of alternative logic gates.
3 Write examples of alternative logic gates.
4 ETC
