Online Coding for Kids

Introduction

There are various reasons why coding is important and why it should be taught in schools at an early age. Coding for kids, not only helps children improve in their mathematics and writing skills, but also gives them valuable skills in life and eventually in the workplace. Further more and according to Wheeler, “the capital asset of the 21st century is data”, CNN 28th March, 2021.
Many people may hurriedly assume the data mentioned is the one that provides internet access to them in their various devices.
However, the data referred to is not the type telecom companies are trading on. Rather, it is somehow synonymous with coding. Therefore, the earlier children start to code, the better control they have on the ‘capital assets’ of their future. But the question is what is coding? That takes us to the next topic.

What is coding?

Simply put, coding is the process of instructing a computer to carry out a task. In other words, it is a process of communicating with the computer. It provides a means for us to create computer software, websites, apps, video games, automate robot manipulators and locomotion, etc.

Just as numerous and varied as the tasks human beings carry out, so there are different types of coding and programming languages, depending on what you want to develop. And each has its own set of rules. Children really need to start the set of rules in one or more programming languages as early as possible. Where and how can they start this journey?
