Period 1: Kingdom plantae

Learning Objectives – By the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
State three classification of plants according to kingdom plantae.

Presentation

Classification of plants is based on kingdom plantae. Green plants belong to this kingdom. according to kingdom plantae classification, green plants are divided into Thallophyta, Bryophyta, and Tracheophyta (Source: Ref B1-02, Pg 16). Other classifications of plants are phylum spermatophyte (also called the seed plants). The seed plants are further divided into gymnosperms and angiosperms. Then the angiosperms are grouped into dicotyledons and monocotyledons.

Gymnosperms are plants with naked seeds. That is, they are plants that do not bear flowers. While angiosperms, on the other hand, are flowering plants. They form the largest group in the plant kingdom.
